Living in Massachusetts means being exposed to damaging weather events on occasion and it is important to check your MA homeowners insurance to see what type of occurrences it covers and which it doesn’t. One of the potentially most damaging natural events is hail and hail damage to roofs is familiar to many MA residents. Fortunately, it’s also generally covered by home insurance.

But what do you do if you think you’ve sustained hail damage to your roof? Firstly it is important to have a roofing professional check to see if damage has occurred. Climbing roofs is dangerous and precautions need to be taken. You need to take hail damage seriously as, while it may look as if damage is limited, the long term implications of such damage are that it may reduce the life of the roof or make it more vulnerable to leaks or further damage.

The next step is to contact your insurance agent who can begin the claim on your behalf. The insurance provider may wish to discuss with your roofing contractor the extent of the damage and how much it will be to replace. Even if you consider that your roof has sustained minor damage, don't hesitate to contact your insurance provider or agent to discuss lodging a claim.

Contact one of our agents if you want to find out more about MA homeowners insurance. We can also assist you to obtain any additional coverage you may require.
